Repairing mobile home before moving it?

We want to tear out all the old carpeting, etc and fix the soft spots in the floor and put all new flooring in, probababy do electrical work, etc. Is this something we could do while we wait for the contr...

Hey I was wondering how much storm a mobile home can stand. It's good to know yours withstood 80 mph.

That "chimney" looks like a nifty idea! Thanks for posting the picture. Jpingram, I didn't look much at the electrical panel but I think my husband has, at least he was looking at the wires, ect. since an aquaintance recently lost his mobile home due to its illuminum wires starting a fire ...

Re: water heater
Oh, I remember that the gas lasted a long time when I had a gas stove. What I didn't like was that the price of gas kept going up and up every time (so it seemed) and the stove gave out on me in a few years (the repair was too costly to do) while my electric stoves keep plugging away with very occas...

Re: water heater
Oh, I hadn't thought of that. There are gas ovens in the trailer too that we want to replace with electric so no doubt we'll need to get some electrical work done.

Re: water heater
Thanks DCDiva. I didn't know we could install a hor water tank on the outside in a "chimney"; maybe we could also install it in an outdoor closet on a landing for one of the doors? If we can get a small enough one that still holds enough hot water for our needs, maybe we could put it under...

water heater
The used mobile home we bought for our lot is without a hot water heater. We want to save space and money. What is the best option for us? Thanks!

Re: Old mobile home as "storage barn"?
Melissa, I do know that zoning allows two mobile homes as long as it is one dwelling.

Re: Old mobile home as "storage barn"?
That's the way I understood it, Greg, they would not classify a storage building as a mobile home. Maybe I'll call him back later this week. I'll see. Thanks for the reply.

Old mobile home as "storage barn"?
We are buying an empty lot to put a mobile home on. It looks possible that a used mobile home within our price range will be kinda small for us. We can't afford to install two mobile homes up to code, so I was thinking about buying a storage barn to put whatever we can into it instead of in our hous...

Re: What's the approximate cost of...
JD, thank you! I actually got inside a single wide yesterday and discovered that two trailers this size would be a lot more space than we need. It was 14 ft by maybe 76 ft or so, exremely long. If we got a big trailer like this, we would need only about 450-500 sq. ft. more to have as much house as ...

Re: What's the approximate cost of...
Thanks for the info, DCDiva, that gives me a bit of an idea how much it might be. I did check into used doublewides a little, but it was discouraging, as they seem to be more rare in this area (unless you buy new!) and a lot more expensive than we can afford. Plus, I think I'd get only one kitchen w...

What's the approximate cost of...
... joining two singlewides into one structure and putting a new roof over all? About $2500? Or more like $5000 or even $10000? I'm running into some hassle with local codes. The officials are telling me I am not allowed to simply install two mobile homes side by side as close as I can get them. The...
