Re: extending eves

How I did it: had roof stripped back to trusses, removal of existing eaves (they were just tacked on extensions). Added a 2x4, on edge, PL premium adheisive and screwed, to top of each truss and extending over for new longer (deeper?) eave. Resheath, 100% covered with "Grace" brand ice/wat...

Re: Torx (Star Drive) Screws

Greg, you are correct about the Robertson, US companies did not want to pay the patent fees. I think the torx head was started by GM. My memory could be failing me there though. Generally, I use a robertson for most of my heavy duty fastenter needs. I don't think deck screws come any other way in Ca...

Re: Stackable washer & dryers

We have a Sears stacking wash center. A big one. Sits on the particle board floor (it is vinyl covered) and no problem. Been there for about 7 years.

Re: a sawing question

One of the highest rated SCMS's (sliding compound mitre saw) is the Makita 10". The only other one that beats it in performance is the Festool Kapex, which cost double the Makita. I believe the one I seen in the tests is the 1013 model, which, I think, has been now given the model number 1016. ...

Re: Laminate flooring question

I used a jig saw and a circular saw, fine blades. Put the nice side down. On a tablesaw, put the nice side up when cutting. You want the teeth traveling "into" the show side when cutting. Less chipout on the show side that way.

Re: Residing and Insulating outer walls

What I have done (2x6 studding) is replace the fiberglass insulation where bad with Roxul brand cellulose batts (higher R rating), then sheathed the outside of the studs with 7/16 exterior OSB and then a layer of 3/4" exotherm (polyisocyanurate with foil face), then siding (vinyl). I "Tuck...

Yanita.....sounds like you are trying to leave a smaller carbon footprint. Fuel efficient vehicles, easy home to live in that takes fewer resources. That would be my story anyway...lol.

Re: I am not trailer trash, I am trailerlicious!

LOL, not even that Greg......Only gets active when threatened by the town with orders from the by-law officer. I am glad I am on the end of the street with my yard to the river, a little oasis away from it all. The neighbours place behind me that burned down has still not been cleaned up. Makes you ...

Re: I am not trailer trash, I am trailerlicious!

Don't know why, but our park owner seems to encourage them (the trash). Of course, his home rates like that too. Does not enforce property standards to the point that the town has written him warnings and have charged him under the local by laws. Lots of folks around here behind on payments. You wou...

http://i591.photobucket.com/albums/ss356/JimDaddyO/misc/DSC_3415.jpg My idiot, dim wit, disability hillbilly, rotten, disturbing, trouble making neighbours solved the problem themselves. They had their electricity cut off and were running a gas generator in the shed with the exhaust ported through ...
