RE: Heating Ductwork Replacement/Clean/Move

Aye Gary I'm with ye on the geo-thermal heating. I wonder if the new Pex plumbing might be the way to go on that. It's relativley inexpensive, conducts and holds heat well. Doesn't have the problems copper pipe has with acidic soil and such. The new fittings have eliminated the expense of special to...

RE: More frozen waterpipes and an odd solution!

Well now folks there was another friend that sent me an answer to this problem and had me scratchin' my head. See, back when I remodeled the master-bedroom there was a grill right behind the head-board..right where this ++++ 90deg. fitting freezes. Of course when I layed the new drywall I covered up...

RE: Heating Ductwork Replacement/Clean/Move

Gary I'm awful late getting to this post but thought I'd jump in and warn you of something. You mentioned "the new furnaces are much more effecient." Gary...no they ain't..sorry to say. I've checked some (not all) available replacement oil furnaces for my 1970sw. and they are not 1 bit mor...

More frozen waterpipes and an odd solution!

Well now folks I'l be as brief as possible. (yeah..right) Anyways in my old 1970sw when the temps drop below 20deg. I open up the waterheater closet and point a fan in there to keep the pipes from freezing. Most of the time it works. This week it hit 7deg. and I lost cold water to the toilet, washin...

RE: Moisture?

Mp I'm going to attempt to offer up some thoughts and 1 possible solution. First off the problem sounds like condensation in the original "attic". Do you have a peaked, flat or rounded original roof? Not the new roof..the original roof. If the problem is condensation, as I suspect, the rea...

RE: Free heat in the winter?

Hmmmmm? Reverse the attic fan and put positive air pressure inside the attic which would presumably force the warm air down and into the home via the furnace cabinet. Hmmmm? Dang! Less expensive..less twaddling about trying to shove 60ft. of pipe thru a 12X12 gable vent...no other fan needed. I like...

RE: Change plumbing to collect gray water?

Hmmmm...since I'm in such a humorous mood I thought I'd just share this story with ya'll. My older brother Art was perplexed for years with a recurrent problem of clogged drains in his kitchen. Seems every Fri. night his kitchen sink would clog up without fail. And every Fri. night they enjoyed spag...

RE: Change plumbing to collect gray water?

Aye folks it can be done and rest assured I have done it. It's not an easy task by any means given' the nature of our plumbing! Fact is I got fed up with clogged drains and decided to do something about it. Now, as a sidenote, in some locals this may not even be leagle. Some laws require all waste w...

RE: Cold Air!!!

Bob I'm gonn'a offer up some thoughts here. Some have already been posted so bear with me. Any dryer vent should have a "flap" to prevent just such a problem. If it doesn't... install one. Check the old one to make sure it's not clogged up with lint before ya buy one! Lowes/HomeDepot sell ...

Free heat in the winter?

Hmmm..sometimes I think too much. Anyways. I have one of those digital thermometers that has a sending unit that yer supposed to put outdoors so ya know inside and outside temps. Seems like a good idea except in the wintertime the batteries croak from the cold outside. Excellent design..eh? Thank yo...

RE: Replacing all floors

Aye Diesel let me add some more thoughts here as well. I began my remodeling project (1970 12X70 s.w.) about 3 or 4 years ago. At present the job is only 1/2 done. I rekkin' it'll take me another 2 years to get it all done. I work alone and when time allows. I work a full time job and usually anothe...

I'm watching it git bigger..and bigger..and bigger!..

Folks I don't know how many of ya'll have ever had this happen. I rekkin' most folks have. See, in cold weather one of my favorite things is to make soups and chowders an such. What? What'd ya'll think I was talking about? O.K. anyways....Ms. Carol brought me over a big bag of clams t'other day and ...

RE: Analog Television Info

Hmmmm...not that this needs to be brought up as I'm sure most of ya'll are already "in the know," but why this change in analog signal vs. digital signal?? Well, it seems our gov't feels they need to have access to analog signals for military purposes. Certain sattilite (sp.?) stuff and wh...
