Re: High heat bills

Well, you have received advice from several people, some homeowners and some professional service people, and you have dismissed all of it. If you will not actually TRY something, I guess it is time to abandon this thread and move on. Good Luck. Well, I have actually been looking into getting someo...

Re: High heat bills

Remove the vent grille from the floor in at least 2-3 rooms, and shoot pictures facing each direction from each vent. You should be able to set the camera in the duct and take the picture easily enough. Post the pictures here, and maybe someone can be of help. It will either confirm or shoot down a...

Re: High heat bills

So your furnace is running only 4 minutes on/15 minutes off? That is only on 16 minutes of each hour, which doesn't seem like much. Mine runs for 7-10 minutes at a time, then is off for 10-20 in cold weather. How much propane do your neighbors use in comparison? I know propane is more costly than n...

Re: High heat bills

I agree. Wish I knew someone with one of those cable cameras (like chimney sweeps and plumbers use) to properly inspect it. Saddest part of this whole thing is that the weatherization people from the county *should* replace/fix my vents for nothing. Last time they were here, though (5 years ago) the...

Re: High heat bills

Firstly, I need to apologize, because even though I've been checking back here from time-to-time, apparently, I stupidly didn't realize there was a second page to this thread, and didn't see the last two entries until just now. Regarding the guy who initially checked my ducts (I think in late 2006 o...

Re: High heat bills

Including the current heating season (which is not yet over), I've been in this mobile home for 6 winters . I've only kept records for four and half (beginning with Feb. 1, 2007). For the very end of the 2006/2007 heating season (February-April 2007) I used 182.3 gal. of propane. For 2007/2008 heat ...

Re: High heat bills

Where are you at exactly? $400+ per month is atrocious. I like everyone else here am inclined to believe that your problem is in the ductwork. If you don't have the money to fix it, in the meantime I suggest you switch to space heaters. The problem with that is you may have some freezing issues wit...

Re: High heat bills

Then you should get helped with the most up to date guidelines. Unfortunately, if you have the very thin exterior walls, there is just no easy way to add insulation to them. From what you describe your furnace airflow to be like, I'd guess the duct work is disconnected somewhere underneath, so you ...

Are you going through a state agency for weatherization?
Yes. I think so. It's the same agency through which I get the heating assistance.

Re: High heat bills

Thanks for the reply. I have been getting the heating assistance for several years, but my bills are so incredibly high, it only makes a small dent. I'm still grateful, none-the-less, as I'd be in an even worse predicament without it. Regarding the weatherization, I am again (supposedly) on their li...

Re: High heat bills

Thanks, Greg. I'll try to get someone to check underneath for me, but understandably, those I ask are quite hesitant to do so. Regarding the rotted floor, it is completely beyond my means. It's not that I'd rather spend the money elsewhere, it's that I physically don't have it. Not a penny. All of t...

High heat bills

Hello. I just discovered this forum and wanted to know if the problem I'm experiencing is typical or not. Five years ago I purchased a 1973 Fleetwood mobile home (single-wide - approx. 860 sq. ft.). I don't know the model or anything. The furnace (propane-fueled, forced air through ducts) looked lik...
