New furnace recommendations

I am replacing an older Nordyne furnace in my 1994 single wide mobile home. I'm looking at Revolv, Coleman VMA and others, some of the reviews aren't very good. Can one of the professionals here help steer me in the right direction? My home is 15 x 75, I'd like a high efficiency if possible. One tha...

Problems after leveling

I had my single wide 70' MH leveled recently by a contractor that used a transit instead of a water level. After he leveled the home the side door which was recently purchased as an upgrade with a storm door would not close. They jacked up the area under the door and then I got a big bulge in the fl...

Bathtub replacement odd size

I'm in a quandry over what to do with a bathtub replacement for a tub that is 54" x 33". I cannot find this size anywhere. If I go to a standard size 27" x 54" will that work just as well? Can I go to a regular store like Menards or Home Depot and buy a standard tub or do I have ...

How much insulation in the roof?

My MH does not have any heat retention, I was told this was because of the lack of insulation in the roof, there is maybe three inches tapering off to nothing on the eaves. I'm redoing the roof now, is it worth it to blow in more insulation? will it make a significant difference or am I just wasting...

Shingles or metal?

Help, the contractor that is redoing my roof wants to cap the existing osb board with plywood. I've always heard that shingles are heavy and having two layers of wood instead of just one will only increase that weight. Should I let him put these two layers on with the shingles or just go with a meta...

Underbelly insulation repair

I am replacing the insulation underneath my mobile home, how much of an air space is optimal between the belly tarp with the insulation on it and the actual floor. I understand there needs to be a space for warm air to heat the pipes and the floor, but am not sure now much is enough. On the sides of...

Leveling and frost piers

I'm in the process of doing structural repairs on my MH, I was wondering if you can level a home using a transit instead of water level, the contractor who's doing the work suggested that. Also are a few frost piers supporting the blocks going to help stabilize the home or do you have to do all of t...

Re: How to replace underbelly

I don't recommend stapling the insulation to the floor joists, it is completely ineffective in a mobile home, the insulation must float under the floor supported by the belly tarp creating a vapor barrier of warm air in between otherwise you might as well not bother. Please read Mark's book on this ...

How to replace underbelly

I know this topic has been discussed many times, however I cannot find the instructions how Mark or the other professionals recommend replacing the underbelly insulation on a mobile home. Could someone refer me to where I can find this? Thanks

Re: Sagging outer walls, water problems and more...

I noticed that some of the interior walls are also sagging, could that be due to excessive moisture under the home? There was no vapor barrier put down. Also could someone provide or direct me to the proper way to place a single-wide 72x15 on piers? What kind of vapor barrier is typically used and i...

Sagging outer walls, water problems and more...

I have a '94 Medallion Mansion single wide home which was not set-up properly, it's on cement pads but not frost footings (we're in the Midwest). We've had quite a lot of water seepage between the siding and the OSB board on the outside, due to no roof overhang (shingles) and some cupping along the ...
