Re: Drain for hot water heater pan

Sorry, I did mean T&P. Here is our local code. Your's may vary, but I doubt it. I don't think anything else can connect to the T&P discharge pipe. Pressure and temperature relief valves on water heaters shall be piped in accordance with: a. Shall not be directly connected to a drain system. ...

Re: Drain for hot water heater pan

Check you local code, but where I live you are not allowed to combine the TPR vent with anything else.

Re: Black water pipe to tank leak

This sounds like a travel trailer rather than a mobile home. I had the exact problem with my motorhome. The leak was at the rubber connector that is at the base of the black tank. Buy a new rubber connector, in case you need this. In my case I could loosen the connector, work it back on, and then ti...

Re: Shower drain strainer removable to snake?

The screen in my shower was held in by 2 screws. The screws rusted out. I replaced it with a screen from the home store that is simply held in with fiction. It is not obvious by looking at it but I can just pull it straight out. I also tried the zip strips and did not have much luck with them but th...

Re: Winterizing a Summer Mobile Home

I have a summer home also. Greg's advice looks good. One thing I would do is to blow out all of the other faucets and then do the toilets last. The reason is that once the toilet is flushed, it is not easy to close the valve to flush out other faucets. I also have an extra valve at my water supply t...

Re: Plasma TV wall mount?

I mounted a TV in my motorhome.

I first mounted a piece of playwood to the wall to distribute the load. The mounts still need to go into the studs but the plywood can be screwed to more locations than just where the mount goes thru it.

Re: Laminate flooring question

They make special blades for laminate like this:

Also, they say that a table saw is the way to go. There is something about the angle of cut in a miter saw that destroys blades.

Re: Sealing Metal Porch Roof to Mobile Metal Roof

A question for JD: I don't understand how to apply the Eternabond tape due to the standing seams on the mobile roof: http://www.flickr.com/photos/11822199@N05/4831801164/in/set-72157624463309861/ Also I wonder if it might be simpler to just use an white elastomeric roof cement and then an elastomeri...

Re: Sealing Metal Porch Roof to Mobile Metal Roof

The corrugated roof sits just below the mobile roof. There is no flashing, but the mobile roof does hang over the corrugated roof by several inches. Thanks on the tip about black asphalt sealants! Henry 209 is a black asphalt sealant and it seems to be what Henry says is best. I will look for the po...

Sealing Metal Porch Roof to Mobile Metal Roof

I have a porch roof of coragated metal and my mobile has a metal roof (standing seam?). The porch roof underhangs slightly from the mobile. It is leaking big time at the seam between the porch and mobile and also some from the seams in the coragated metal. I suspect it was made worse when the mobile...

Re: White metal roof

My brother coated his shingle roof and it did build up water on the edges. It caused numerous leaks and eventually he had to replace it (with a metal roof). I would not coat any shingle roof.

Re: New Roof on Trailer and Covered deck

Be sure to relevel the home before you proceed.

When my home was releveled it pulled out the porch supports near the home and now I need to deal with that. If they had releveled before building the deck and porch roof, it would not have been an issue.

PEX cinch or crimp best?

I plan to redo some plumbing in PEX. I have pretty much decided against using Sharkbites due to long term cost and possible freezing issues. Now I need to decide between cinch or crimp clamps. I thought I had heard that crimp was better but a plumber I talked to says that he now only uses cinch and ...

Re: Axles on or off?

The contractor was happy to leave the axles on. I had the concrete block piers that were falling down replaced with steel jacks placed on 16x16x4 pads. Overall it looks much better. The level back to front was out by 3 inches. It has a porch which is attached at the metal roof. The did not want to b...
