Re: In too deep to turn back now... now what?

Regarding siding. From looking at the photos I assume you and or your contractor did not install horizontal blocking between the stud bays at the intersection of the existing siding and the HARDI you installed. If they were installed great, if not it needs to be there for over time those joints will...

Re: Roof Vents Question

I am in the northwest. All homes including MFG homes have eve/soffit vents. The shingle MFG will call that out as part of the warranty. Do not know how the MFG home manufacture is getting away with that?? Would look for a home with 12/8 inch eves with soffit vents. Would not settle for anything less...

Re: New metal roof install

Did you install a continuous ridge vent.
Keeps the temperature down inside the roof and helps eleminate condensation problems in the roof cavity.

Re: complete doublewide rebuild

Insurance company's and banks are the tail wagging the dog.
They will probably have someone drive by and take pictures when your done and apply for insurance.
They may ask a few more questions and want more details.

Re: complete doublewide rebuild

I would have something in writing from the local jurisdiction that states no codes apply when going from commercial to a rental other than an electrical permit required. If anything, you type up the document and have them sign it. . You need to be concerned with egress for fire-- window size from be...

Re: Upflow vs Downflow Air: Seeking Opinions

If blower motors are burning out every five years there is a problem with the system not the motors. The installers are incompetent and not looking for the root cause of the problem. You either lack a adequate return air path back to furnace or obstruction in duct flow. Motors usually last 10/15 yea...

Re: water heater

There is no insurance company checking what type, brand ,water heater, furnace, heat pump you are installing. Nor does the insurance company inspect appliance to see if they are approved for MFG homes. As long as you purchase a permit if required by local jurisdiction and its inspected you will be me...

Re: Tape & Texture or VOG? Seeking Opinions

Greg is spot on. Set up is the most important item. If set up crew is crap then you have a problem!! Checking out your set up crew. Are they certified to install? Do they have any complaints? Are they a bonded and insured contractor. Does your dealer have a bond and insurance? Purchase home with hig...

Re: Upflow vs Downflow Air: Seeking Opinions

I would keep supply ducts under home.
A more temperate zone, less apt to be eaten by wasps and if something does go wrong they are accessible.

Re: Bathtub install & plumbing

I would install a Kohler cast-iron tub with a Moen tub shower valve.
Then install a man made material on the walls such as Marbleque.
Of course you would need to install 3/8 plywood on walls before the man made wall finish goes on.
Post picture when done.

Re: water heater

You will want a direct connect vent and direct connect combustion air .
It does not need to be MFG home approved as long as it meets the two above items.

Re: CAULKING:: Should I caulk along here?

Window should of been caulked at top, sides and bottom between window and trim.
Allowing water in at the above locations will hold water in contact with trim and siding and eventually rot out siding and trim.

Re: New to the Forum - Wood Stove Backing, Walls, and Other Qs

One comment. When you pull the wood stove pipe support box from the ceiling you will see that they cut the rafter in half . Make a close inspection for any evidence of sagging. If any is occurring you would want to install some type of header const in the roof cavity and support existing cut rafter ...

Re: range hood replacement

I should have added use smooth wall rigid. Corrugated flex pipe creates more turbulence and traps more grease in each of the folds.

Re: range hood replacement

What you are experiencing is something all will realize regarding micro range hood versus just a simple range hood. Micro range hoods have a lot more nooks and cranny's that trap grease and other particulates that are air born. They are not as efficient of removing grease laden air as a straight ran...
