Re: Installing New Waterlines
Has anybody had any experience with any of the various moisture alarms, as to reliability? I have been thinking of trying them in critical locations. We have had water damage from the slow type leaks. I have since replaced most fittings with the original SharkBite fittings and no problems as of yet....

Re: Douglas Fir VS. Pressure Treated Wood
In California HCD requires all lumber that contacts any concrete or the ground be pressure treated or of such make up as to not rot or decay. Douglas Fir is what is pressure treated, redwood cedar or oak would survive, pine most likely would be gone in a couple years. Pressure treated lumber is to p...

Re: 10 x 26 attached patio cover
In California we can not attach any wooden structure to the mobile home eves without an engineering report from the manufacture and a permit from the dept. of housing and community development, aka state gov. We can only use aluminum , if it is freestanding, wood is permitted. I would check with you...

Re: Bouncy Floors
Greg; I spent all day yesterday putting the insulation and the vapor barrier back , did not get done till about 1800 pdt. I will finish up the remainder of the house sometime in Feb. It will take me that long to recover, I am old and overweight and have spent most of the month of Jan. under this dam...

Re: Bouncy Floors
Greg I had a hard time understanding your opinion on this mater. I reviewed that video many times and came to the conclusion, you made a good point. I believe your thought was solid 2x6 blocks instead of 2x4" with 1x4 cross pieces would be equal if not stronger. I tried it on 2 sections, mind y...

Re: Bouncy Floors
Greg, Not exactly sure what you mean. I am screwing 2x4s to the sides of the joist and screwing 1x4s in an X pattern to the 2x4s. I am trying to copy the video, it's a lot of work, but on the sections I have completed the floor seems considerably more solid. Shooting nails from a framing gun would b...

Bouncy Floors
We have a 2006 Karsten, the flooring system plain sucks. I have been working on it off and on between plumbing leaks and many other repairs for the last year. We have 3/4 particle board on 2x6 joist on 21" centers yes there is a lot of give when just walking on it. I have stopped all of the flo...

Re: Best way to cut holes on VOG walls?
Cutting blind holes in an existing wall could be dangerous , unless you know for sure there are no wires behind the wall. The stroke needed on a drywall saw could be a problem. H.F currently has the oscillating multi tool on sale for about $16.00. The depth of the cut is controllable, the other plus...

Re: Best way to cut holes on VOG walls?
This makes nice clean cuts in drywall, little mess, easy to control, plus has many other uses.

Re: Best way to cut holes on VOG walls?
I vote for an oscillating multi tool, around $ 20.00 harbor freight to $100 plus elsewhere , less mess easier to control .

Re: Fascia Board
That's tough question, people will need to see what you have already, or a picture of the existing structure before any good suggestions are made. I removed all of the factory fascia, some kind of cheap lumber a step up from balsa wood, it's a Karsten built 2006 and had many spots of rot . I replace...

Re: Light switches that grip the back side of drywall
I to have installed 4 of these, I cured the lack of wall plugs in this wonderful Karsten, anyway not knowing the quality of the factory drywall , I added a short piece of paint stir stick to the top and bottom, on the back side of the wall, a little contact cement holds them in place till screws are...

Re: Adding Microwave Over Stove?
We removed the range hood and added a microwave in that space. The only problem I had was the bottom of the cabinets are spray painted drywall yes drywall had to pull and replace with oak plywood, took longer to drive to lumber yard then to replace the drywall. Now I know why Karsten is no longer in...
