New Pex Water Line Installed

Hello, I live in Southern Colorado. I bought a home that had old CPVC pipe. It was mostly broken from freezing. I had the plumbers that my contractor recommended re-pipe the home with PEX. they charged $4,500. I crawled under the home and they ran the PEX under the insulation, just over the belly ma...

Finishing Wall Seams

Hello all, I am working on a bathroom in a 1996 dbl wide. I removed the trim boards from the seams and was going to mud, and tape them. If I put a level across the seam, it is much taller than the rest of the wall. Approx. 1/4" at 12"-16" away from the seam on both sides in places. Th...

Exterior Door Replacement

I need to replace an exterior door on a manufactured home and I have a question. I have replaced a few where I had to cut the metal door down to fit with no problems. But I had a friend ask me about the last one I did. The opening in the home was approx. 74" tall. A standard door is approx. 80&...

Skirting with Vinyl Siding

Hello,

I had new siding installed on my home. They put the vinyl siding all the way to the bottom of the home. Now there is no room to attach the skirting.

I am using metal roofing as skirting. Can I just attach the J-channel to the vinyl siding at the bottom?

Thank you,
Steve

Roof Truss Repair - Did I make my plywood too short?

Hello all, I am working on a 1971 mobile home. The roof trusses are 1x2 and 2x2 material. Over the years the roof has sunk in, and many of the trusses have broken. Mainly the top boards. I read right here on this great forum about scabbing plywood to the sides of the trusses to repair the roof, and ...

Re: Solar is cheaper than you think

I was just wondering if anyone has tried any of the new 'Build Your Own Solar System" books. I have seen several of these sites. The have testimonials where people were able to build a decent sized panel for less than $200. There's a bunch of sites. When I get a few dollars ahead, I'd like to g...

Thanks JD. I'll give it a try. I was planning on using 3/8 plywood instead of sheet rock for the ceiling. after the trusses are repaired. I saw in another of your posts about weight of the panels. I was thinking 3/8 plywood in place of sheet rock would help to strengthen the entire ceiling and are m...

Hi JD, Thanks for the reply. The 3/8 or 1/4 I mentioned was to be cut in strips approx 2 inches wide and stuck between the top of the truss and the actual roof filling the gap, or raising the metal in this case. Kind of like a shim. I just thought 1/4 would be more flexible. Thanks again for the ans...
