RE: Dryer vent max length?

THANKS again for the info! In case others are reading this, I always use the metal tape (not sure what it is called) - not "duck" tape. THe metal tape holds up so much better!

THANKS for the info! I have been using the higher quality "smooth" walled flex duct. It is pulled tight and rigid (as can be) when I am done. I thought about the pipe.....I am not sure how I would support it though.

Dryer vent max length?

Hello. I am thinking of moving my dryer vent and was wondering, what is the maximum length you can go with a metal dryer vent? (the accordian type - metal foil like with a "slinky" like skelton - flexible). Here is the deal - our dryer vent vents out to within about 2-3' of our outside AC ...

RE: Conditioned crawl space

We have vinyl skirting with vented pcs every so often. The vents are open. We live in Iowa. Last week we were down to -34 with a wind chill of -45 below. I have a wireless thermometer under our house - the coldest it got was 19 above zero! Usually it has been stayin around 32 or 33 with an occasiona...

RE: Covering vents in the winter?

THANKS for the advice! We bought our home new in 1992 and have never covered the vents. Our crawlspace area has always been dry (except this past spring with our leaking water main - since corrected and dried out). THe under area looks like it did in 1992. I think I will just leave the vented panels...

Covering vents in the winter?

Just curious, we have never covered our vents in the 16 winters we have had our mobile home here in Iowa. I was just thinking about trying that this year. If so, what is a good thing to use? We have vinyl skirting on a 16x70. We have not had any issues as we have heat tape and insulation on our pipe...

RE: FEMA house update - arrgh!

Well good news (sort of) - they have moved out the FEMA house next door. FEMA left to the court all of the blocks, skirting and steps. The court is selling off the steps - VERY nice ones - I was going to build one for my back door - no need to now as I bought the deck/steps from next door :) Now to ...

RE: FEMA house update - arrgh!

I found out today that the house they are pulling out the houses because they are needed in Texas. They are leaving the steps behind and letting the park sell them off for services rendered.

RE: FEMA house update - arrgh!

What is frustrating is that they have 100+ FEMA homes sitting at the staging area in town waiting to be set up. The day before they started to move houses out - the FEMA inspectors were still doing their inspecting. There is so much "pork spending" ie, there are FEMA inspectors that they o...

FEMA house update - arrgh!

Well, they just finished setting the FEMA houses - almost 2 months with numerous work crews, inspectors, FEMA folk 7 days a week, all new electrical boxes, etc. Well, now today (Sunday) They have removed the steps, took the skirting off, unhooked and are hauling out the FEMA house.. What a WASTE of ...

I second the tin snips - I use a large pair and it is like a hot knife cutting through butter :)

Some more info: THey did not put a vapor barrier down, and all of the lots that the FEMA houses are on is getting all new upgraded electrical service - new pedistals, new lines run from the tranformer, etc. THey also have very nice built on site steps - treated wood, very nice looking on the front A...

FEMA House

Well we got a FEMA house next door now. It is interesting watching them set them up. We have a place in town (old shut down dog track) that for the past month and a half has been a staging area for FEMA homes. It is neat seeing the transport trucks lined up every day bringing houses and hauling them...

RE: Replaced Heat Tape - Now I am ready for winter :-)

I had been reading the instructions and brochures.....the more I read the more contradicting information I found :) One instruction sheet would say one thing and another would say something different - both for the same product. So, I hopefully got it done right :) I don't know what I would do witho...

Replaced Heat Tape - Now I am ready for winter :-)

Ok Old Man Winter - I am ready! I replaced my heat tape today - boy did they do a real bad job when they re-did our water main. The Frostex cable had about a 12" section that the braid was gone! Anyway, here is what I did - I bought new Frostex heat cable and a new end and plug kit. I got the o...
