Tracing an electrical short
I am trying to locate the source of an electrical short. I have one room with 3 outlets and an overhead light that will not operate and another room with a closet light that will not operate. All of these are on the front side of the home and I cannot locate a GFI on that side of the home. I also te...

RE: that lovely wallboard
This was a premixed joint compound. In the video we used a box of Green standard joint compound and mixed it in a bucket wit about a quart of water. I really prefer to buy my joint compound in 5 gallon pails and mix it in the pail but in this particular video I took a box of regular Green joint comp...

OOPS,
Sorry, I forgot to answer part of your question. Yanita is correct, Lowe's, Home Depot and most paint stores have the brush.
Every day is another project. Some days the project is finding the cash for the next project.

RE: that lovely wallboard
I really don't know the proper name of the brush. I suspect they are called texture brushes but we always called them "stomping" brushes because that is the technique you use to apply the texture. I first learned of this brush when a contractor showed me how to texture a ceiling using one....

Siding options
I'm looking for ideas to replace the vinyl siding on our home. I was planning on going with Hardi-Plank but the level of work necessary to stain and hang each piece on our home is really not worth the aggravation. It might be different if you could stain it after it was hung but you really can't and...

You can always texture the walls using the drywall compound technique I used throughout out entire home. It is very easy to do, looks great and hides just about any blemish. You can go to my web site (tastyvenison.com) and click on the Rancho Pequeno link at the bottom, then the In Process page 2 li...

RE: Sandpointe's deck
Every local municipality has their own rules so you really need to check with the county that governs your area. This particular structure did not require a permit because of its size (8 x 6) and the fact that it was not attached to the home. But that's just their rules, yours may vary from that. We...

RE: Sandpointe's deck
I cut mine flush and sat the truss on top, but that doesn't mean it was the right way to do it. I imagine you would get more horizontal support by notching out the 4 x 4 and screwing the truss into the side of the 4 x 4 but I couldn't do that because I didn't set my posts far enough away from the ho...

Hi Yanita,
I had posted a picture of the porch with everything done except for the flashing and that seems to be missing as well. I'll stick it back in here for now:

Thanks JD. Your material arrived today. Let me know what I owe you and I will mail you a check.
It arrived just in time. I figure to get to the roof this weekend:

RE: Replacing the base underneath a kitchen sink
Thanks, he ranked #13 in the world with a bow. I was trying to film myself while I was hunting for it. I got most of the hunt on video but I somehow managed to turn the camcorder off the instant before I shot and then turn it back on as he was running away with the arrow in him. For the life of me I...

RE: Replacing the base underneath a kitchen sink
Thanks! It's funny, the next day the left sink started leaking from the drain basket. I must have somehow loosened it while I was putzing around under there and I ended up with a little water under the sink again, but this time it fell on the tiles and all I had to do was wipe it up. I can't see why...

RE: Front Porch ideas
I hate to answer for JD but my plans were to just tuck the flashing underneath the drip edge.
I'm trusting that the fit will be rather firm. If it isn't, a little bit of caulk on the back side of the flashing should help keep it in place.
