Ahhhh..the first mowing of the year!!

Well folks after viewing another post I just had to whack the keyboard after todays joy. 'Tis been a long winter and nothing much stirs a mans soul like firing up the riding mower and launching out of the garage "full-throttle" and with the blades engaged on new risin' turf!! WAGH! The sme...

RE: Choosing Lawn Tractor

Hmmmm? Well Barb the first thing I noticed is that you mentioned your 20yr. old Craftsman you're going to give to your son. 20yrs. old?(the mower..not your son..) Ever had many problems with it? I assume it's still running as you're giving it to your son..eh? Now as has already been mentioned it's n...

RE: water heater questions

JD, just a small point but no reference was made on my part or Serenas post concerning gas hot water heaters. She said her home was total electric and I said I installed a new electric hot water tank. Yup..the rules are different for gas appliances whether hot water heaters, stoves, ranges or furnac...

RE: The Tub From Hell: SUCCESS! IT'S PARTY TIME!

Aye good woman how odd it seems that in the times of greatest dispair... some gift of Providence arrives. Eh? Though the cost may have seemed high at the time... filling the new tub to the over-flow with lavander scented bath-beads made it all better now didn't it? A coupl'a spoons-full'a Epson Salt...

RE: water heater questions

M'am...just recently I installed a hot water heater in a ca. 1984 trailer and the owner purchased an electric hot water heater "designed for a mobile home." The only difference between a standard hot water heater and a mobile home hot water heater was that the fittings were located on the ...

RE: Tub Plumbing Question: Simple (I think but don't guaran

M'am one of the best tips I can offer has already been posted. As much as I dislike it there are times when we need to think outside the box. Not long ago I had a plumbing job to do at my folks home. Nothing was plumb, square or "per-code." There simply was no way to make the drains line u...

RE: Continuing Saga: Help Needed New Tub Install

Aye nwwoman nothing is ever as easy as it seems when upgrading or remodeling these home is it..eh? Well, allow me to interject some humor into the situation and mebbe I can at least bring a smile to you. As in any job.. the tape measure lies constantly. It may say "it fits!" It won't. Some...

Well folks I just felt I had to post this. Mind ya I'm in the middle of remodeling a room. It's just a tiny 4ft. X 12ft. room where I store all my "stuff." For a number of years this was the repository of hunting gear, fishing gear, etc. etc. etc. As well I like to keep all my best tools h...

RE: Replacing Kitchen Cabinets

Well Greg you may as well give up trying to make me feel better! I bought 16ft. of unfinished oak cove-moulding and sundry tools that claim to make it easier. Horseapples! I've now got 16ft. of kindling, not much hair left to pull and a helluva beer tab. I haven't got one lousey piece of trim to fit...

RE: Adding windows

M'am I'm gonn'a jump in here and offer up some thoughts. First and foremost instead of trying to fit in 2 extra windows why not just install 1 and be done with it? You'll cut your labor by 2/3rds. and have less chance of any leaking by just installing 1 window. It's actually quite simple. I've done ...

RE: Water Pump Problem

Jimbo I'd bet it's the foot-valve. Seems about every 7 years I had to replace mine. Sludge would build up in it or it rusts out. If I recall..the last time I installed a premium one that was stainless steel. Haven't had a problem with it since. That was about 10yrs ago. Now Jimbo I didn't know if a ...

RE: Doors - thinking outside the box

Hmmmm? Wish I had an easy answer fellers..fact is I don't... other than ripping the opening big enough to fit a standard size door. A while back I fit 2 new doors on the neighbors 12X70 s.w. and he wanted steel doors. He went thru Lowes and had 2 doors "cut-down" to fit. Arrgh! It cost him...

RE: Pex...and Barry nearly had a heart-attack!

Mark I don't know what the failure rate is of the "Shark-Bite" fittings. This is my first venture in that particular area. The benefit of the new style fittings is time saving. One simply pushes the pipe into the fitting and it's done. Copper to Quest/ Quest to Pex. Push it in..done. On th...
