Feng shui

Feng shui is an ancient Chinese practice of placement and arrangement of objects in a space that supposedly results in a perfect balance with the surrounding environment. It is not a decorating style; it is a strict set of rules that aid in creating the perfect room along with a good decorating sense.

Basic principles of feng shui are simple to follow and completely cost efficient; they are virtually free because you are not adding new objects to your space, you are simple reorganizing the ones you already own. Some believe feng shui is nothing more than a silly superstition, but no harm can come from at least giving it a fair shot. If nothing more, you will have given your rooms a mini facelift in the process.

Simple rules of feng shui include the foot of one’s bed should not be in direct line with the doorway, avoid clutter in all rooms, and add plenty of mirrors to rooms because they are said to shift negative energy to another space or reflect good energy to other areas of the same room. What’s more, it is best to avoid straight lines when placing your furniture and sharp corners should not be directed at a place where a person sits to relax. When sitting at a desk or workspace, it is crucial that you are always able to glance up and see as much of the room as possible just by looking in a straight line. When building a new home, it is said to avoid having your staircase face the entranceway because this is believed to invite negative energy into your home.
