A refrigerator is a necessity to families everywhere nowadays. With the pending threat of global warming, it is crucial to purchase energy efficient products that run on renewable energy sources, thus preventing pollution and lowering your annual electric costs. Still using that older model? Toss it. Today’s refrigerators are said to lower energy expending costs by about ½ that of the fridges from as little as 5 years ago. The refrigerator is the biggest energy expender in the average household, so be sure to purchase an Energy Star model, which are better insulated, and use energy efficient compressors.
Helpful hints to keep in mind when setting up a new refrigerator include not placing your fridge near a heat source, for example, the oven, and always leaving a gap of about 3 or 4 inches between the back wall and the refrigerator. Set the internal temperature of your fridge around 37 degrees Fahrenheit. During daily use, do not leave the fridge door open for long periods of time. |
